A Real Life Review: MotoGirl Dungarees

A Real Life Review on the kevlar MotoGirl Dunagarees:

*Trigger warning; mentions an accident. On January the 7th 2021, Bella Nielsen was hit by a car. More specifically, Bella was riding her motorcycle before she was pulled out on by a driver who was trying to turn right onto a busy, six lane main road. Bella was flung from her bike onto the road. This caused her to sustain four separate breaks to her pelvis and a variety of other injuries. One thing to note however, was that Bella reached out to let us know that she did not have a single scrape, graze, cut or otherwise to any of her lower body.

Why? Because she was wearing her brand new MotoGirl Dungarees that she had bought from us only recently.

The Dungarees did their job by protecting Bella in the event of an accident from sliding grazes, cuts, abrasions or worse. Unfortunately, no amount of armour can protect the bones from an implosive hit like the one she endured as she hit the car and the bitumen; but luckily, she was able to focus on the recovery to her pelvis without the need for skin grafts, burns or worse.

We did a mini-interview with Bella today to discuss how she felt about the accident. This included what she was struggling with, how she was handling things and how she felt about the MotoGirl Dungarees overall.

The Interview

Q: How are you coping after the accident?

A: Not so well; I am struggling with nightmares of crashing. The accident keeps flashing back to me, and I get panic attacks. I am worried I won’t ever be able to work properly again, and I’m not sure how my pelvis will heal.

Q: That is horrendous. How have you been taking care of yourself since the accident as a result?

A: Well, luckily for me I have a great support network. My partner, Stratton, has been paramount to my recovery as he has been doing everything I can’t. I can’t drive yet, so he ushers me around; he makes my food, helps me shower – everything.

I have also had the awesome support of the East Coast Female Rider group – they have been checking in on me, providing advice on how to get back on the bike after, and how to deal with the situation currently. They are the only group I like posting in because they are so supportive and understanding and I feel safe to ask questions or talk about anything on my mind regarding bikes. You can’t find that anywhere else.

Q: Looking at the pictures, it’s obvious that the other party was at fault. How are you dealing with that?

A: Honestly, one of the hardest parts has been seeing that I am the one on crutches, in pain, with my life turned upside down whilst the driver comes off scot-free. Although I think the accident could’ve been a lot worse, it’s still hard to fathom the amount of change it’s caused in my life.

Q: What do you think helped your accident from being a lot worse?

A: My gear! I was wearing my HJC Helmet, my gloves, my favourite jacket and my brand new MotoGirl Dungarees.

Q: How would you say the Dungarees helped?

A: I did not have a SINGLE scratch on me where my Dungarees were covering. I was honestly devastated when they had to cut them off of me because they were my favourite… but they even had to use big industrial scissors to do so as the kevlar was so protective and thick, that it wasn’t budging easily. They were comfortable, easy to get on, looked great and they were so protective, they slid well in the crash and I didn’t have any cuts or gravel rash or anything. I’d hate to think how I’d have gone in normal jeans.

Q: Would you buy another pair or recommend these to a friend?

A: ABSOLUTELY! I’ll be buying another pair for myself as soon as I can get back on the bike. They are my favourite to ride in or even just to wear; they are much more comfortable than any other riding jeans I’ve worn. The sizing was perfect.

Bella’s Advice?
